Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
The primary goal of upper eyelid blepharoplasty is to diminish the fullness of the upper eyelids. Bulky upper eyelids are usually a familial contour that really don't change with age. Surgery of the upper eyelids is very effective in diminishing the fullness of the upper eyelids and deepening the upper eyelid crease. This allows for the more efficient use of eyelid makeup in women. It also reduces the weight of the upper eyelids and possibly improves the field of vision.
Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Prominent bags of the lower eyelids are also primarily a familial characteristic which may become more prominent with aging. Removing the fullness of the lower eyelids is one of the most effective operations in facial plastic surgery. Lower eyelid bulk is removed from the inside of the eyelid. This technique is very effective in diminishing lower eyelid fullness and does not require an incision in the skin. Removing the wrinkles of the lower eyelid is only modestly effective. If prominent wrinkles are present, however, these may be excised from the skin surface.
